User Interface Design

Get the design you want
Most web development companies design three mockups to show clients and ask them to pick the design they like best. Companies use this time-consuming and expensive process because they don't know what their clients are looking for.
At Habañero, before we begin your design, we utilize our comprehensive design visioning process to learn exactly what you want. By first developing a solid design vision, we are able to create one first-class design for you, which we further refine through a series of interviews and usability tests.
Throughout the user experience development process, our extensive focus on one design ensures that your website, intranet, or web application is as usable as it is attractive.
Working with you through the process
We customize our user interface design process according to your project, but the basic steps are as follows:
1. Develop the design vision
In order to feel confident creating one design for you, we ensure that the design-visioning phase is comprehensive and includes all of your key internal and external stakeholders.
We begin the design process with a series of workshops. In addition, our user experience team develops a detailed design questionnaire that we distribute to members of your organization. We combine workshop and questionnaire information with a competitive analysis and compile your detailed design brief.
2. Create a scrapbook
Before we put pixel to screen, our designers take the elements in your design brief and create a scrapbook. A scrapbook allows us to explore design concepts and ideas without wasting time and money, and it's an invaluable tool for getting design buy-in. The scrapbook is also an important tool in avoiding common pitfalls like design-by-committee.
Scrapbooks often contain brochures, annual reports, marketing materials, colour swatches, photographs, competitors' websites, sketches, and magazine cut-outs. The scrapbook has proven time and time again that people truly understand design visually, not by reading extensive documentation.
3. Develop the new look and feel
Once we've completed your scrapbook and gotten approval, our design team finally gets to develop your new user interface. We conduct a full internal review with everyone on our user experience team before showing you the design. Not only is this review a great source of new ideas and inspiration, but it results in a more polished, well thought-out product.
4. Conduct a design usability test
We conduct a usability test on your design before implementation to make sure that the design is as usable as possible. This allows us to find any usability issues early in the process, avoiding costly redevelopment once the design is integrated into the technical environment.
5. Implementation
Unlike some firms, when our user experience team is finished, we don't toss your design over to the implementation team, never to see it again.
In order to ensure your design is implemented successfully, our design team works hand-in-hand with both internal and external development teams (depending on your project). By working together and doing regular visual audits, we maximize the integrity of the design and the usability of your overall product.
